How We Grow

The land that makes up Barker’s Farm has been worked since 1917, first by hand and now using tractors and other small equipment.  The overarching principle is to sustain and improve the soil as each year passes and grow nutritious food for the community.  Through a partnership with the Cooperative Extension Services through the University of New Hampshire, the farm makes use of crop rotation, green manures, compost and other organic methods. These practices help ensure a productive, sustainable farm.

Edie and Forrest Barker, plus the entire farm crew, work as a family and invest their time and energy growing produce and cultivating healthy soil.  The Barkers run a family farm and have been eating locally and feeding local families for generations.  Their passion for farming translates into produce that is nutritious, fresh and affordable.
